Summary of the article

Participation in meaningful activities is often compromised among mental health care users (MHCUs) living with major depressive disorder (MDD). In acute mental health settings, occupational therapy groups are the primary treatment modality used to address these challenges. However, evidence regarding the therapeutic impact of these groups on activity participation remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to determine changes in activity participation from admission to discharge among MHCUs diagnosed with MDD who attended occupational therapy groups during their stay in an acute private mental health setting. The findings offer guidance for designing occupational therapy group interventions and monitoring the therapeutic outcomes.
