Description

The OT Link is proud to bring you FCE Think Tank, a discussion group chaired by Robyn Hunter and presented by guest speakers.

This month we welcome:

Petro Grove [Occ. Ther (UP)]

Petro indicated that for a long time she has done mainly medico-legal work, although she has also been involved in Occupational Therapy in various other capacities. She has never been a person to do only one thing, and the more she does the more she feels alive. After several years working as an OT, she was blessed to finally find her calling in the field of Low Vision. She understands the day-to-day challenges of VIP’s (Visually Impaired Persons) very well, because she has Low Vision herself. Therefore she does not call the VIP’s who consult with her “patients”, but “clients”.

Although her current focus is very much on Low Vision FCE’s and Case Management to assist VIPs to Return to Work, her passion goes much further than this. She is prepared to assist individuals of any age with whatever they need from a therapeutic perspective – as long as they are VIP’s. For example, she no longer takes referrals for Play Therapy but – in the event that a VIP may benefit from this – she will gladly get involved.

She does not consider herself a “regular” OT because she is open-minded and thinks out of the box. Despite this, she also loves clinical- and critical reasoning. She believes that it is equally important to focus on detail whilst also seeing the “bigger picture”. She loves training, being “different” and using humour – also with Return to Work. It is a serious and challenging topic, but all of us enjoy ice-cream after a “serious” and balanced meal, right?
