Course Objectives

• Examine how HPCSA ethical guidelines shape daily operational decisions in medico-legal, FCE and vocational rehabilitation practices.
• Distinguish between clinical and non-clinical OT services and the implications for ethical obligations, coding and billing.
• Evaluate permissible marketing and referral-seeking practices when services are procured by third parties such as attorneys and insurers rather than by patients.
• Apply HPCSA guidance on remuneration to employment and subcontracting arrangements in medico-legal work, including the status of commission-based payment.
• Formulate ethically defensible responses to common practice dilemmas, including addendum requests after a practitioner has left the practice and follow-up requests where fees remain outstanding.
