Summary of the article

Burnout is a common phenomenon among occupational therapy professionals and is associated with poor health and well-being, absenteeism, staff turnover, and exit from the profession. This study identifies specific occupational therapy roles, practice settings, and job characteristics most predictive of burnout, and evaluates job crafting as a potential strategy to reduce burnout and enhance work experiences. Employers and occupational therapists can use these findings to target high-risk areas and develop resources that strengthen occupational therapists’ ability to engage in job crafting.

Job crafting is useful in managing burn out

The study was limited in terms of the scope of fields covered in Occupational Therapy and appeared to skim the surface of what occupational therapists may be confronted with in the field. Examples of job crafting could have been elaborated upon. It acknowledges it's limitations to the USA context. Other contextual factors will also play a role and could have been listed as considerations.
