Resilience has become an increasingly prominent topic, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. I recently had the opportunity to watch a presentation on resilience from an occupational therapy (OT) perspective. One key distinction between the OT approach and that of psychology is the emphasis on context. Occupational therapists view resilience through a biopsychosocial lens, recognizing the intricate interplay between biological, psychological, environmental and social factors. This is especially relevant during OT Week. The theme “OT for changing contexts”. Changing contexts affect the therapist and the client. They demand resilience for OT to remain impactful and relevant. The environments and situations we navigate are constantly evolving, and building resilience enables us to adapt, thrive, and continue advancing the role of occupational therapy in people’s lives. You are a resilience resource to the people you work with.
