Course Content

Learners with low vision are faced with many challenges in the classroom each of which are unique to them depending not only on the cause of their vision loss but also on the extent and timing of the vision loss. A basic understanding of the cause and effect of the eye conditions will be presented together with guidelines of how to make appropriate adaptations in the classroom environment.



The Low Vision Centre is excited to introduce Mrs Hazel Sharon Sacharowitz to present this exciting webinar on “Assisting learners with low vision in the classroom.”

Hazel is an optometrist with a keen interest in the field of low vision. She is currently in private practice at the Low Vision Care Centre, Heathway Square, Blackheath, Randburg. Prior to this she lectured at the Optometry Department at the Technikon Witwatersrand and University of Johannesburg for more than 30 years. Hazel has presented at both national and international conferences, as well as local support groups and workshop sessions on various aspects relating to low vision care. She is a member of the South African Optometric Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
