Sleep plays a major role in children’s mental and physical development. Sleep is important for restoration, growth, repair, memory retention and learning consolidation. Sleep deprivation stifles the immune system, negatively affects mood and behavior, and can also hinder a child’s performance in school. In this fantastic introduction, Tanya Muir, “The Sleep OT”, explores the development of sleep, importance of sleep for babies, children and adolescents and overviews the OT role in the support of Rest and Sleep.

This course will review:

  • Basic Sleep Science – Understand how sleep develops from infant to adult
  • Development of Normal Sleep
  • Common Sleep Problems through the ages and stages
  • Special Populations commonly treated by OTs & typical sleep problems
  • OT Role in Sleep & Rest – where to start with OT Assessment and Intervention
  • Referrals and Resources
You have until 31 December 2024 to complete this course.
