This course consists of  Two Video Presentations available immediately.

 

1. 2 Hour Theory Presentation

  • This presentation reviews
    • The legislation around driving with a disability
    • Summary of the SASOM Guidelines: The Law, The Science and the limitations.
    • Understanding the different assessment needs according to the different types of disabilities and medical conditions.
    • Understanding the process of the driving assessment
    • What we mean by Medical Clearance and Functional Clearance for driving.
 

2. 1 hour Recorded Driving Case Study and Question and Answer Session

  • Caroline Rule presents a case study presentation relating the theory presentation to clinical practice. She then fields several questions from participants sharing her depth of clinical experiences and providing guidance on common topics.
  This course is an excellent introduction into this complex field and will give you a great starting point for your clinical practice in this field.

Caroline has over 30 years of clinical experience and is most well known for her work in the field of Driving with Disability. She was awarded the prestigious Albie Sacks award for the therapist that has made the biggest impact on the lives of people with disabilities in South Africa in 2016.

She runs Rolling Rehab – a driver assessment and consultancy service for people living with disabilities. She has held office on the editorial board of the “Rolling Inspiration” magazine since 2002 and writes regular columns on topics including wheelchair mobility, product reviews, road tests and wheelchair sports.

Caroline was involved with the planning, setting up and development of the “Driving Ambitions” project – an adaptive driving school for people with disabilities and is responsible for assessing each client that comes into the program and training of the driving instructors.

Caroline is the chairperson of the Driver Fitness Coalition, and member of: the MEC of Transport’s Driver Fitness Working Group; and the SABS TC1092 Assistive mobility devices for persons with disability. She is also an international wheelchair rugby classifier.

Caroline is at the forefront of therapist training in the field of driving with disability and this Couch CPD serves as a fantastic introduction to this exciting field.
