This course will review:
  • Primary features of CFS/ME
  • CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia/Chronic Widespread Pain as overlapping central sensitization conditions – differences and similarities
  • Pathophysiology of chronic central sensitization and its presentation as chronic fatigue (in CFS/ME) and/or chronic widespread pain (FM)
  • Diagnosis of CFS/ME according to latest NICE guidelines
  • Course and severity of CFS/ME and prognostic implications for overall functioning and return to work
  • Assessment: comprehensive assessment of CFS, including – interview, physical examination, administration of select self-report measures, clinical observations and FCE components.

Helen Roome [BSc (OT); PG Dip Interdisciplinary Pain Management; Dip. Practical Labour Law; MA Theology] is a passionate, creative OT with over 20 years clinical experience in adult physical and psychiatric rehabilitation. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Pain Management in 2019 with distinction. She now works with adults with chronic pain, stress and fatigue – offering them a compassionate and practical approach to managing their daily challenges. She brings a wealth of clinical experience and the latest evidence to support best practice in managing the complex condition that is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
