This paper looks at the current realities of and experiences of South African occupational therapists working in the medico-legal field. It also shares the opinions of relevant role players.

Objectives of the course:

On completion of this CPD activity, the participant will be able to:

1. Discuss the state of medico-legal practice from an OT viewpoint.
2. Discuss the role of an occupational therapist in the medico-legal field.
3. Discuss the role of an expert witness.
4. Name the strategies which would contribute towards improving the standards of occupational therapists’ medico-legal work in South Africa.
