Objectives of this course
On completion of this CPD activity, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the development of handedness in children, including the age at which adult-like patterns of hand preference and performance emerge.
- The occupational therapist will gain knowledge of traditional and non-traditional assessments of hand preference and performance abilities in children, including the advantages and limitations of each assessment method.
- The occupational therapist will acquire an understanding of the relationship between hand preference, hand performance, and language lateralization, and how these factors may impact occupational therapy interventions and strategies for individuals with different hand dominance.
